This Is The End (R) - Review
"Is It?"
Strip Pineapple Express of all its professionalism and replace it with off-the-cuff humor and you end up with This Is The End, a vehicle for Seth Rogan (Knocked Up) and his Hollywood buddies all playing themselves (Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, James Franco) to get stoned during the Apocalypse and giggle about inane things for our apparent amusement. And it is funny, these are funny guys sitting around coming up with funny retorts and if the situation (think Left Behind in a comedic vein) doesn't please you some of the jokes still might. There aren't any high brow ideas or fantastic moments here, usually its screentime with 5-6 pansified actors limping and screaming through the End of the World. The cast is filled out by a plethora of TV Comedy stars, while Danny McBride again steals everyone's fun by proving his weasel faced persona could almost be no act. Negative points is the uneven CGI in the early moments of the Ragnarok, just slightly over home HD camcorder cinematics and like most improvised comedies tons of misses along with the solid hit jokes. It is fun goofiness, but a hundred plus years of artistry and evolution and the best thing in the cinema is a bunch of drunken stoned friends guffing at the camera for an hour and a half? Kevin Smith would be oh so proud if this one was his.
6.5 Spatula Crucifixes out of 10 (GOOD)
