Wake In Fright (UR)
"Kangaroo Hustle"
An Australian Teacher on holiday is stranded and penniless in an Outback mining town called "The Yadda" while on his way to Sydney. He finds it filled with social diseases such as alcoholism, gambling and lack of modern civility. A unique horror movie that preys only on man's ability to self-degrade, with stunning photography and exciting performances (Donald Pleasance is a standout as Doc). The short fall of man is the theme here, that he is never too far from the animal he claims not to be, and the film goes to great lengths to prey on that fear. The real life kangaroo hunt the characters drunkenly participate in is gory and not for the feint of heart, but is not without reason. The movie is three sheets to the wind, a sin fueled nightmare of the male spirit, born on the edge of civilization and dying by its own hand in self awareness.
7.5 C'Mon Boys! out of 10 (GOOD)
